Tour de East Java set to start in April

Indonesia is set to hold its fifth Tour de East Java, incorporating a course of 559.6 kilometers from April 2-6 and offering Rp 500 million (US$55,000) in prize money.

Harijatno Tjondrokusumo, from the organizing committee, said preparations were progressing smoothly but sponsorship remained a problem.

"We need to look for more sponsors to support funding. The total budget we need is around Rp 3 billion," Harijatno told The Jakarta Post Friday.

Harijatno said 22 visiting teams had confirmed their participation, including from Japan, Australia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Netherlands, China, Qatar, Philippines, Hong Kong and Switzerland.

"We had expected only 20 teams, but more teams have shown interest in the event, so we will accommodate for them," said Harijatno.

The course is planned to encompass routes across Jombang, Blitar, Batu, Tosari and Surabaya.
