Indonesia sends 1,200 athletes in Asian Beach Games in Bali
Some 1,200 Indonesian athletes will take part in the Asian Beach Games 2008, which will be held on Bali Island, from October 2 to 18, 2008.
So far, 30 countries, out of 45 which have confirmed their participations, have sent data on their athletes which will join the Games," Rita Subowo, Chairman of KONI (Indonesian Sports Committee), said here on Monday following her meeting with Vice President M Jusuf Kalla.
The Asian Beach Games would contest 17 sport numbers to be held in four different locations, namely Nusa Dua, Jimbaran, Kuta and Sanur. The Games would be broadcast live to 100 countries by using information technology similar to those used in the Olympiad and the Asian Games, she said.
Among the 17 numbers are surfing, wind surfing, wood sport, diving, takraw, marathon swimming and traditional boat.
Japan, Thailand, South Korea, China, Iran and Jordan will be among countries participating in the Games.
More than 10,000 athletes from 45 countries were expected to join the Games.
The next Asian Beach Games will be held in Oman (2010), China (2012), the Philippines (2016) and Thailand (2016).
